The Witcher 2
Logotype, website and brand art direction.
When The Witcher hit the stores in 2007, it became an international success and sold 1,5 million copies worldwide.
With The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings announced recently, it become clear that the brand had evolved, and we were happy to be a part of that process. For the new incarnation of the game, we were asked to create a logotype, a new website and a brand art direction, which consisted of envisioning the right ambient and color style, as well as compositing and post-producing render artworks.
For the work on the logotype, we have stuck to the path of The Rise of The White Wolf, adding a little bit of 3D into the mix. We tried to make it as stylish as possible, since we perceive the main hero as a war-dancer, and logotype’s shapes and cuts were to be as done by himself.
The new website had in goal to balance between serving as an information hub and being heavy focused on the art style, with clear distinction between publisher’s different games. We also took some time tweaking the forum engine, to get rid of unimportant information, graphical clutter and making overall experience more focused (no more smileys and text formatting!).
There is always a certain uneasiness when working with estabilished brand, considering what people expect and what you think is best for it.
We certainly pushed some buttons but we had our Client’s confidence in our ideas, and always thought that our national anti-hero deserves his own style.
The website has been honored as Silver Award Winner at W3 Awards in NY.
